Pakistan is the 6th most populated country and its armed forces are the eighth largest in the world. K2, the second highes mountain, is on the border with China. Pakistan has the second-highest rate of deforestation in the world. Pakistani scientists have contributed to world knowledge in many fields and one was awarded Nobel Prize in physics. Literacy in some regions is, however, very low. Pakistan has an active research presence in Antarctica. Button and ruler are ancient Pakistani inventions. In 2014, the World Economic Forum ranked Pakistan as the second worst country in the world in gender equality.
